Oh, you didn’t know I was married? You didn’t even realize I was in engaged? That’s because I’m officially the worst blogger…can I even still call myself a blogger when I haven’t written a post in almost a year?
Anyway, our five month anniversary was a couple weeks ago so I figured an update was long overdue!
Let’s jump way back to July 1, the day we got engaged (and the day after my birthday). Adam had been acting suspicious for a couple days so I thought he might propose, but I legit thought that every time we went on vacation or did something special, so I didn’t hold out much hope. But on the night of July 1st, in the middle of our kitchen, surrounded by our dogs, Adam asked me to marry him.
This happened in the middle of the pandemic (when the numbers in Arizona were the some of the highest in the country and the world), so we really weren’t sure what to do about a wedding. At that point no one really knew how long this would last, how bad things could get, or when it’d be safe to meet up again, so after debating a bunch of options, we decided to get married in December and have everything outdoors and socially distanced (plus masks).
So on December 12th at Lost Dutchman State Park, we were married surrounded by 20 of our closest friends and family (plus a few on Zoom who couldn’t attend in person).
After the ceremony, we hosted the reception in our backyard. Luckily the weather cooperated so with the addition of a few rented patio heaters, everyone was comfortable (and safe) outside.
My friend Scott is a DJ so he set up and played music for us. We had Waldo’s BBQ cater dinner and we finished with a wedding cake from Sassy’s Bakery.
It wasn’t how I ever pictured my wedding, but it was a beautiful day and it ended up being pretty perfect.
A huge shout out to our friends and family who braved a pandemic to celebrate with us and to our friends and family who sent gifts, best wishes and cheered us on from afar. We hope someday soon we’ll be able to celebrate together in person!
