About Me

Hi, I’m Sam and welcome to my blog! Away She Went is the everyday adventures of a 30-something: making a house a home, battling wrinkles, cuddling doggies, and exploring Arizona and beyond.


I live in Mesa, Arizona with my husband and our three dogs – Jelly, Ringo, and Abby. I became a first-time homeowner in March 2011 and I’ve spent the past few years turning our house into home.

I love decorating, DIY-ing, thrift shopping, reading, binge watching TV, and cuddling with my 3 dogs. Oh, and traveling! I’ve been lucky enough to visit some amazing places all around the country and the world. 

By day I’m a corporate cubicle dweller financial analyst. I manage budgets, schedules…and I’m putting myself to sleep just talking about it. I’m definitely a more creative person than my job title suggests, which is one of the reasons I started this blog. I thought it would be a fun way to express my creativity and share my (mis)adventures in owning/renovating/decorating a home. Oh, and force myself to actually finish projects!
